About this program
The University of North Carolina School of Medicine's Visiting Student Program (Chapel Hill, NC) offers domestic students in their final year of medical school the opportunity to participate in educational, engaging, and challenging clinical elective experiences. The program is restricted to US LCME-accredited M4 students; international medical students apply via a separate pathway administered by the UNC Office of Global Health Education (Visiting International Students / IVS program). Applications are submitted through the AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) platform; the 2026 cycle opens in May 2026. Required materials include one letter of recommendation and a personal statement. Visiting electives are offered across UNC's North Carolina affiliated sites including Asheville, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, and Wilmington. The Larry D.
