The University of Pittsburgh Office of Academic Career Development (OACD) / Postdoctoral Affairs Office (postdoc.pitt.edu) is the central administrative office for postdoctoral training across Pitt's Schools of the Health Sciences (Medicine, Dental, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Health & Rehab Sciences) and Graduate School of Public Health. Approximately 1,000 postdoctoral scholars are at Pitt at any given time. MD/MBBS graduates pursuing US clinical, translational, or health-services research apply DIRECTLY to faculty principal investigators across the Pitt School of Medicine and the UPMC academic medical center's research institutes — there is no central postdoc application portal. Once a faculty member accepts a candidate, the department initiates the formal Postdoctoral Fellow appointment and Pitt's Office of International Services (OIS) coordinates J1 (research scholar) or H1B visa documentation. Stipends generally follow NIH NRSA scale (~$50-60k+ depending on years of experience). Typical appointments are 1-3 years. NOTE: This is the postdoctoral RESEARCH track.
