University of Michigan — Research Fellowship

University of Michigan Medical School's Postdoctoral Fellows program (Ann Arbor, MI) is administered through the central Postdoctoral Affairs office, which coordinates benefits, professional development, and visa sponsorship for postdocs across U-M departments. MD/MBBS graduates pursuing US clinical, translational, or health-services research apply DIRECTLY to U-M faculty principal investigators — there is no central postdoc application portal. Once a faculty member accepts a candidate, the department initiates the formal Postdoctoral Fellow appointment and ISSS (International Center for International Scholar Services) coordinates J1 (research scholar) or H1B visa documentation. Stipends generally follow NIH NRSA scale with U-M institutional supplements depending on department and years of postdoctoral experience. Typical appointments are 1-3 years.
