About this program

This one-month observership places visiting physicians inside NYU Langone's Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology, one of the largest academic dermatology departments in the United States. Participants rotate through subspecialty clinics at the Ambulatory Care Center on East 38th Street, sit in on daily morning didactics, grand rounds, and the Tuesday Night Conference, and spend time with faculty in private practice settings. The program admits one track per month September through June, and seats fill on a rolling basis. Observers attend in business-casual attire (black scrubs for procedural observation) and do not provide any direct patient care. Applicants must hold a medical degree, have completed formal dermatology training equivalent to a US residency, demonstrate English proficiency via TOEFL, and currently reside outside the United States. Entry requires a B-1 visa or visa waiver; NYU verifies visa status but does not sponsor J-1 visas. The application packet is substantial: a 500-600 word personal statement, CV, three physician references, medical school and residency diplomas, TOEFL proof, and government-issued photo ID, due at least three months before the requested start date. The department explicitly notes the observership does not satisfy American Board of Dermatology eligibility, is not a fellowship, and does not confer residency credit. A certificate of completion is issued at the end of the rotation.
