About this program
The Hair Observership is the most narrowly scoped of NYU Langone's three international dermatology tracks. It places a trained dermatologist alongside faculty who specialize in hair and scalp disorders for one month, with days spent observing patient evaluation and management for conditions like androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, scarring alopecias, and other trichology concerns. Observers do not perform or assist with patient care. Tuition is not posted publicly and must be requested directly from the program coordinators. Eligibility matches the other two tracks: medical degree, completed dermatology residency (or equivalent subspecialty training), TOEFL proof, residence outside the United States, and a B-1 visa or visa waiver. The application packet is due at least three months before the requested start date. A certificate of completion is issued. The rotation does not qualify the observer for American Board of Dermatology pathways and is not positioned as a stepping stone to US residency. It is best suited to already-trained dermatologists who want focused exposure to NYU's hair-disorder practice before returning home.
