About this program
The Brigham and Women's Hospital Global Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Training Program is a long-form observership-plus-research experience designed for international physicians who want to train as clinician-scientists. Under Program Director Peter Hou, MD, and Division Chief Raghu Seethala, MD, the default appointment runs twelve months and BWH does not consider requests shorter than six months. Trainees rotate two months each through Surgical, Thoracic, Cardiovascular, Neurological, and Medical ICUs and then two months in the Emergency Department, all as observers without direct patient care responsibilities. Alongside the clinical rotations, each trainee develops a research project, learns study design and methodology, and must complete at least one publishable work. Curriculum deliverables include a hospital overview paper, a quality-improvement project, and a final end-of-program presentation. Tuition is $5,000/month with an advance deposit; eligibility screening is routed through the Mass General Brigham Office for Global Professionals and Scholars (GPS).
