About this program
UT Southwestern's Plastic Surgery observership is open exclusively to physicians holding an MD or equivalent (PhDs are explicitly ineligible), and it runs only during the November 1 through May 31 window of each academic year, with the summer closed to observers. Rotations are capped at six weeks unless the observer secures written approval to extend. The experience is strictly observational — the observer cannot participate in clinical decision making and cannot do hands-on work — and the program repeats that the rotation does not constitute medical education and therefore does not confer academic credit. The International Affairs office assists with immigration, typically via B-1 Visitor for Business visa or J-1 Research Scholar visa. Candidates must submit a completed Observer Application Form, MD degree copy, letter from home institution confirming good standing, CV, English-language immunization records, documentation of at least $2,920 USD in funding, and health insurance with repatriation.
