About this program
The Panamerican Trauma Society's International Observership, organized in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University's International Trauma System Development Program, gives international medical students, physicians, and fellows structured exposure to the American trauma ecosystem. Rotations span the full continuum: pre-hospital care and EMS systems, the trauma bay, the acute care ICU, post-hospital rehabilitation, the simulation center, performance improvement initiatives, and trauma ultrasound. Each observership is strictly shadow-only — the program explicitly prohibits patient care, examinations, procedures, or research. Observers receive a certificate of attendance. Duration ranges from two weeks to roughly one month. All rotations begin on the first Monday of the month, so applicants must apply at least three months in advance. Applicants must be medical school graduates, demonstrate English proficiency, and secure their own B-1 visa.
