About this program

The MGB EM Clerkship is a combined emergency medicine rotation that places visiting 4th-year medical students in clinical shifts at both Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital — two of Harvard's highest-volume emergency departments. Co-directed by faculty at each site, it is one of the most sought-after EM aways on the East Coast for students applying into emergency medicine residency. Applications are processed via AAMC VSLO through the HMS Registrar; materials are due at least three months before the desired start date and reviews begin in mid-March for summer and fall placements. Rotation dates run January through October, aligning with Harvard's block schedule. Currently the program accepts students only from US medical schools. Visiting students can access housing guidance through the HMS Housing and Transportation page. The program is widely regarded as a residency audition for Harvard EM.
