About this program
The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine accepts visiting medical students through two pathways: a domestic track for 4th-year students at LCME- or AOA-accredited North American medical schools, and a limited international track for students from outside North America. Applications are submitted through AAMC VSLO and administered via the Office of Student Affairs. Pitt also runs two flagship equity-focused rotations: the Jeannette E. South-Paul Visiting Clerkship (JSPVC), a one-month experience for URiM senior medical students that pays a $2,000 travel/living stipend, and the Carey Andrew-Jaja, MD Visiting Elective Clerkship Program, which is OB/GYN-specific at UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital. Affiliation agreement, malpractice coverage, and immunizations must be in place before start. Rotations are regarded as unofficial auditions for Pitt residencies.
