About this program
The Washington University School of Medicine Electives Office hosts final-year medical students for clinical elective rotations at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis Children's Hospital, and other affiliated clinical sites. Applications run exclusively through AAMC VSLO; home medical schools must be VSLO network members. Because of very high application volume, eligible students may participate in only one four-week rotation at WashU Medicine, and even eligible applicants are not guaranteed placement. Tuition is not charged; accepted students pay a flat $100 administration fee to confirm their spot. Observerships and shadowing are not offered, and faculty are not obligated to provide letters of recommendation, though LORs are possible. Direct contact with departments or faculty is discouraged before conditional acceptance.
