About this program
The University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health offers visiting medical students clinical electives across its departments via AAMC VSLO. Eligibility is notably strict: applicants must be US citizens, Canadian citizens, or US permanent residents, currently enrolled at an LCME- or AOA-accredited medical school, in their final year of training at the time of rotation, and have passed USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Level 1 — 'no exceptions.' VSLO does not accept international medical students. Standard timing is mid-March catalog publication, mid-April application opening, and mid-May review start. A select group of specialties runs on a 2026-27 pilot timeline starting March 9. Every rotation requires an executed affiliation agreement between UW and the home school.
