About this program

The University of Washington School of Medicine runs one of the larger visiting programs on the West Coast, admitting senior US and Canadian medical students for up to twelve weeks of clinical electives. Scheduling for Summer, Autumn, and Winter Quarters opens April 1, 2026, and Spring Quarter scheduling opens March 2026. Departments accepting visitors include Anesthesiology (via the funded Anesthesiology Visiting Scholars Program, open March 2 through April 2, 2026), Dermatology (visiting-student scholarship, VSLO deadline March 16, 2026), Internal Medicine (Visiting Scholars Program covers funded travel and lodging), Orthopaedic Surgery (visiting-student scholarship of $1,500 to up to four students), Ophthalmology, and Neurology. Rotations are four weeks each, credit-bearing, and require immunization, background check, and respirator fit-test. Funded scholarship tracks specifically support students from underrepresented backgrounds.
