About this program

Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine operates a VSLO-only visiting-student program for senior medical students from LCME- or AOA-accredited schools. Third-year students are not accepted. The 2026-2027 VSLO application opens March 23, 2026 and decisions begin rolling out April 13, 2026. Each visiting student is limited to a single four-week rotation across the academic year, and participating departments include Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics (Doernbecher Children's Hospital), Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Neurosurgery, and Internal Medicine. Applicants must submit a USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX 1 passing score, an active AHA BLS card, a home-school LOR uploaded through VSLO, and a letter of intent. Once accepted, students pay a $200 non-refundable processing fee per rotation. OHSU explicitly asks applicants not to contact the school directly about status and routes all communication through VSLO.
